Chief Robert (RV) Watts is a graduate of Cross Keys High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon graduation, he served four years in the United States Marine Corps earning the rank of Sergeant. He served with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit serving operations in Somalia, Cuba, and Japan. Upon leaving the military he began his 22-year career in law enforcement. RV began his career at Monroe Police Department in October of 2002.
This division is responsible for the grounds and perimeter maintenance of city-owned cemeteries. Currently, all grounds maintenance is contracted out by the City of Monroe, with contractors cutting the grass on a bi-weekly basis and trimming bushes as needed in areas. It is also responsible for coordination with funeral directors and grave space location. Sales and record keeping of plots are coordinated by the clerks at City Hall. This division is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of all traffic control devices within the city limits of Monroe. It is also responsible for the installation and maintenance of all traffic related signs, road closures, streetlights, and traffic signals.
The Streets & Transportation Department maintains the City's streets, sidewalks, public facilities, traffic controls and signage, and right of ways. The department also operates an efficient fleet service center that provides preventative and corrective maintenance for the entire fleet of the city.
This service is provided Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Solid Waste department will provide a 2, 4, 6, or 8 cubic-yard front load container, for business located within the corporate boundaries of the city. You may request any size dumpster and number of days per week for pickup. Once this is done, the department can give you the information on what this service will cost.
