As a first responder to the site of the reported gas odor, your responsibility is to make the premises safe until a trained service person can respond.

  • Check for the presence of a gas-in-air mixture inside and outside buildings
  • Check the free air for the presence of carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Perform as a first responder to an emergency involving natural gas

Maintaining a Safe Working Environment While Excavating (Competent Person)

(Class starts at 8:00 A.M.)

Soil excavation is require to build and maintain pipelines for transporting natural gas and other structures.  In the process of excavation the soil may become unstable creating conditions that may result in cave-ins.

Prevent Accidental Ignition/Recognize and React to Abnormal Operating Conditions.

An important consideration when working around gas facilities is the possibility of accidental ignition and the extinguishing of gas fires that might be ignited.  To complete this module you will be required to demonstrate knowledge of the task, preventing accidental ignition.recognize and react to abnormal operating conditions.
