Mathews Park is located on approximately 28.71 acres and is a little over 1.7 miles northeast of downtown Monroe at 1016 East Marable Street. The park has been completely rehabilitated over multiple years in two separate phases, funded completely by SPLOST 2019 collections. The first phase of rehabilitation began in 2020 and included additional playground equipment, benches around the lake, picnic tables, trash receptacles, grills, swings, painted pavilions, entrance signage, and new restroom facility.
Pilot Park is located in the historic district on approximately 1.81 acres and is a little over .25 miles east of downtown Monroe at 515 East Church Street. It was the first park to receive a full rehabilitation in our city, and was reopened to the public in October of 2020. The rehabilitation included new ADA compliant playground equipment, benches, picnic tables, trash receptacles, swings, fencing, entrance signage, walkways, and landscaping! The project was completely funded by a portion of the SPLOST 2019 collections as voted on by Walton County voters!
The Parks Department is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and overall planning and design of the parks system throughout the City. The parks system has experienced many positive advancements with recent SPLOST votes.
