Historic Survey

The City of Monroe is conducting a historic resources survey to update our local database of historic properties within the city.

Recently, the City of Monroe was awarded a grant to conduct a cultural resource survey as a requirement of the Certified Local Government program.  The city has contracted with WLA Studio in Athens to complete the survey.  This is the first phase of a multi-year project. Representatives from WLA will have survey teams out sporadically between now and March 2022.  Due to trees dropping leaves, fall/winter is the best time to photograph historic structures.  Team members will walk down streets with clipboards and cameras collecting information on buildings and photographing structures built before 1981.  All information will be collected from the Public Right of Way.  Below is a letter that further explains the survey. Team members will have copies of this letter on hand out to share with interested parties as needed.
